I have recently picked up a 1979 Cb650 I found online that was located close to my home. This past summer I had finished a previous project, converting a 99 Vstar into a bobber. I really like the bobber look but wanted another project and something different so I decided to go with the cafe racer look.
The Cb650 I picked up was in rough shape but ran and was reasonably priced. Within two days I had the bike torn down to the frame. I am currently working on rebuilding the tail to resemble a cross between the cafe racer tail and that of a sportbike. I will also be converting the bike to a Monoshock to give it a modern look.
I am new to the forum and have not figured out how to post pictures of the build but will add them as soon as possible. When I go to upload the image it tells me and error has occured. If anyone can help with this problem it would be apprecited. Thanks
New Project: Cafe Racer
Re: New Project: Cafe Racer
Welcome here!
Interesting project.
The 79 frame with its straight, upper rear tubes has clear advantages for a cafe racer project against the later models.
There are I think two other more or less recent posts in the "show it off" section about monoshock conversions. Maybe worth a look.
Picture upload to this forum has size limits, I think 250kB should be still all right. At http://www.irfanview.com there is a free, nice conversion tool.
Alternatively you could use the [Img] button/function to directly display pictures uploaded elsewhere.

Re: New Project: Cafe Racer
Just use the image code link they provide. Pictures will come out like this:
I quickly came to realize that will all the posting I do on various forums, ebay and craigslist that my free photobucket account was exceeding it's limit within a couple weeks. I now upload all pictures at a much smaller size and have several accounts and all is well.
Neat bike by the way.

Re: New Project: Cafe Racer
Thanks for the compliments on my Vstar. Im in eastern PA. I would like to change over to spoked rims for my cb650 project. I have not done much research on it yet but was wondering if anyone had already done this conversion and if there are any other models that would be compatible with the stock rims. If anyone could help I would appreciate it and the time you would save me of searching the web for the answer.
Re: New Project: Cafe Racer
The later standard models have spoked rims. 1982 however has also a different (dual piston) brake and disk.
I'm sure Terry (cb650) knows all the details.

Yes different brakes in 82. They will interchange with the oler ones but you have to change the rotor too.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!
