Re: my 1981 cb650 custom project
Welcome.
Not original handle bars or exhaust, but looks to be in good shape. I would say worth the money for sure. I have paid $400 for some a bit rougher than that.

So it starts & runs for $150? You ask if you got a good deal? My answer is the question "Do chickens lay eggs?"
Thanks for posting the pictures, I was wondering what my 81' CB650C would look like with the cafe style bars & think yours looks great!

ya the bars are cut up and welded from a different bike. i painted them black and there now back on the bike. the pipe is just like the 4 to 1 set on ebay. i have the end piece with the baffle just not on the bike yet. had to have a key made for 16 bucks and have a clear tittle. i think i did alright and only had to travel 15 minutes to pick it up lol. have to do a little repair on the gas tank but nothing to major. i missing the rear blinkers and part of the air box. but from what i cant tell it seems to run ok but i gotta figure out the gas leak and i hoping it will straighten up the rough idle and smooth it out in general. i have now got another issue. if you watch in the video the left running light was on in the start of it. by the end of the video it is out. im am not sure what is causing the lights to dim when i rev it up. if any of you know why it would do that please let me know. appreciate any help you guys give me . like i said this is my first bike but i grew up on the back on my dads harley. been to sturgis bike rally and all over with my dad. hes been riding over 40 years and hes coming over tomorrow to help me work on it. trying to work the bugs out of it so i can get it on the road before winter and get a little time on it.

I probably have an extra set of rear signals. I may be making the trip to northern MI soon (Cadillac area). I can check, if you are looking for a stock set.
As for the dimming lights, I would suggest checking out your charging system.

thats still a little far from me but i do appreciate the offer. ya i had a feeling it might be the charging system and that sucks. i was hoping not to deal with any of that. but i did only pay 150 bucks for it lol. it was garage kept and hasnt been run in years but started right up. all the bowls were clean and looked good. so if i have to put a couple hundred into it thats not really a big issue. the bike is pretty clean for how old it is and i am very have with it. im excited to get her on the road and go for a cruise. if ya dont mind what would you have to get for the rear blinkers?

Do you need the tail light too? I know I have 2 tail lights that are cracked or broken, but I can see if I have a good spare also.

no just the blinkers. i believe thats all thats missing. i have the rest of it in the box.
Re: my 1981 cb650 custom project
Big ugly blinker are always the first thing I strip from a bike. Since you're already heading in the right direction with different bars and a 4-1, why not get some reasonly sized aftermarket blinkers? A set of 4 can be picked up for under $20 on ebay. Might as well pick up some pod filters while you're at it.

Volker_P: thanks. i couldnt pass it up. i seen it come up on my local facebook buy, sell and trade so i scooped it up. it has been garage kept for the last 5 or more years. hasnt ran in a couple but didnt take anything but a battery and gas to get it running.

Re: my 1981 cb650 custom project
ethanol gas will eat the fiberglass. once you finish the work, I would recommend a tank sealer such as caswell's.

Ask and you shall receive!
Halogen bulbs:
$6 shipped for 4 to your door:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-x-Amber-Motor ... 33&vxp=mtr
Under $7 for 4 shipped to your door:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pc-Oval-Amber ... 1b&vxp=mtr
Under $8 for 4 shipped:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Turn ... 4f&vxp=mtr
LED Bulbs:
Buy two sets of these for a total of $12 shipped to your door:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-PCS-Universal ... 49&vxp=mtr
Another option:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-x-LED-Turn-Si ... 25&vxp=mtr
Just under $15 for these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-x-15-LED-Moto ... 7d&vxp=mtr
You'll need something like these if you go with LEDs. You can make your own for almost nothing but these will work if you're lazy:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Turn-Signal-L ... b4&vxp=mtr
There are a TON of options on ebay, you probably just need to look a little harder.
Re: my 1981 cb650 custom project
It looks like there were other repairs on the opposite side of the tank. If you're not going to weld in patches, I suggest just getting a used tank for cheap.
