81 CB650c (slo-mo cafe style build)
Re: 81 CB650c (slo-mo cafe style build)
I've got the seat and speedo/tach on. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
The speedo has the built in idiot lights. The hi beam and signal light(added diodes) work fine but for some reason the oil and neutral light don't work. The bike starts in neutral without the clutch and the fuse is good. Any ideas?

I need to pull the tank off and measure the rubber mount width and distance to the triple trees. So the tank can get finished up. I just put gas in it, so I guess I'll have to go ride all evening to lighten the load... Darn, lol.

Looking good so far.
Just a couple things that i can see affecting the overall look.
Something needs to be done with that taillight hang way off the rear of the bike. Maybe move it up on the fender, and trim the fender back.
The headlight sticks up, and out a bit to far looking like a searchlight. Shorter ears/mounts should handle that with no problems. What happen to the fairing that you had on it?

That seat continues the tank line quite nice. Guess you 'll replace it anyway but this is almost a pity.

You know, you COULD just invert the headlight mount. That would place the headlight in a less odd position and enhance the appearance of streamlining that the cafe racers tend to display.. Just a thought...
Re: 81 CB650c (slo-mo cafe style build)
I tried flipping it upside down. The fairing wont fit with it upside down, it hits the brake fluid cup. I've thought about getting a different lever/cup, or cutting the fairing some to clear it. It would look better with it lower but it needs to be high or it puts too much air on my helmet. I might try some shorter ears in the future tho cus I'd like to pull the fairing closer to the bars.
I had the fairing off to put the new speedo/tach on, and was enjoying it with out it for a bit, when I snapped that pic. Its been colder in the morning here the last couple weeks so its back on.

Holy smoke, that is one SWEET ride! That taillight still needs to move u though. Current placement makes it look like the thing is sliding back and about to fall off..
Is it safe to assume the tank will stay like this? It sure looks great! How is it for light in your eyes on the road at noon? I ask because an associate of mine repainted his tank and made it super glossy, then proceeded to repaint because it was blinding him when the sun hit it just "that" certain way...
It would be a shame though, because that is one sweet ride!

Thanks! I don't have any problems with the tank blinding me. Its staying as is for sure.
The tail light and signals are next on my to do list. I've toyed with removing the fender and mounting a tail light under the seat, but my wife likes to ride. I need to be able to swap a 2up seat on and off. Most after market tails I've looked at seem like they would point at the ground in the stock mounting point. Guess I'll have to make some thing for there. I've got some bullet turns from a sportster to go on it, I think they have a nice classic look to them.

that tank is the work of a real craftsman! how much did it set you back? - worth every penny!

Got bored with my plain black side covers. Cant clear coat them though it kills the chrome paint.
