Ok, I don't know what the difference is between the CB650 and CB650Z, so now I am sure that it mine is just a CB650. Maibe it has something to do with the fact that I have pistin carbs on my 1979 model and not CV carbs and my tank is 18l not 20liter?
Do anyone know if there is a difference in engine parts ie. top-gasket, timing-chain & tensioner?
here is a pic I took Yesterday
So is it a 1979 CB650 or CB650z?
Re: So is it a 1979 CB650 or CB650z?
you have a 79 or 80 European Z. Slightly diff than the 79 US model.
Love those tail lites. Nice bike. The engines are all mostly the same. The CV carbed bikes had a diff head and the nitehawks (luxury custom in eu) Had blacked out motors and chrome/steel covers.

Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

Notice the different position of the foot pegs...
AFAIK the Euro-Z has rearsets.

Neither of them.
This is something one may like to call the "overseas" Z-model with single front disk silver comstars and the classic footpeg mounts and some other issues different to the European Z-model. Is rear a 18" rim, too?
I think I remember it from New Sealand members and "around there" (as regarded quite unspecific from Germany).

Re: So is it a 1979 CB650 or CB650z?
The rear wheel is indeed a 18", I was wondering if this bike might have had double discs at front, because there are fittings for it on the front shock.
Re: So is it a 1979 CB650 or CB650z?
Have a look at the front brake line.
If it has a DOT number similar to: "DOT NCRN 10/78 1/8 HR", it is probably the stock one (made Oct 1978 in this case).
If it is in one piece, there never was a second brake, otherwise there should be a connector/distributor at the front side of the fork beneath the headlight.
What is disk thickness? Single disk is about 6mm, dual disk is about 4mm.
Nevertheless the Z-models had smaller diameter disks also compared to all RC05 dual disk brakes.
Fork spacing is different for US models with dual and single disk.
So whatever are your plans, make sure you really get what you need!
