Newbie
Hi Everyone
I'm new to the forum and have spent the last year trying to get my 1981 CB650Z back to as near original specification as possibly. I live in the North of Scotland so access to some services is limited. It is not concours, but as I intend to actually use the bike as Mr Honda intended, I'm not overly fussed about that
I have tried to download some photo's but without success . (if anyone can provide an idiots guide I'd appreciate it) I'm not on any social network sites so can't link to them either

Hello and welcome!
The easiest way to do photos is to open a Photobucket account. It free and easy. Upload your pictures to that account. Once you've uploaded them, right click on the picture and select "Copy Image URL" or "Copy Image Location." Click on the "Img" box up top (here on this forum) and paste your image information there.

Many thanks Folsoml.
Here she is . Some of the parts were a real sod to source, for example the rear mudguard. The paintwork was done by Dream Machine to original specification.

Welcome here!
Great job!
I note piston carbs at a 1981 model? I know slight changes are possible for different countries.
The bending of the rear brake bar is intended? I might try that, too...

Re: Newbie
Hi
Carbs are original and needed complete overhaul. I don't know about the rest of Europe, but I know different carbs were fitted to North American models.
I'm not sure if the bend in the brake bar is meant to be there or not but it works fine.
I believe there are only five CB650Z's actually licenced and on the road in the UK (according to www.howmanyleft.com) with a further 6 declared off the road, so certain parts are becoming rare.

Re: Newbie
Hi Kemp
Yours is identical to one I owned in 1979, it was "V" reg prior to being exported to Germany where I did 18k in 9 months. It never missed a beat!
It also looks in immaculate condition, has it taken you long to get it like that? Have you had any problems sourcing parts?

Re: Newbie
Interesting that they are so rare in UK.
The CB 650 were the best seller here in Sweden in 1980-82 and are still quite common. There are presently five for sale on the most popular site for used motorcycles. They are priced between £1000-1500, if in god condition and roadworthy.
I have had mine for 17 years and it is original condition at 40.000 km and not restored or repainted. The silencers though are aftermarket as the original had rusted through before I bought it.

Re: Newbie
I must admit that when I bought it I had no idea how few UK spec bikes were left. It was only when I was given the "howmanyleft" website address (and tried to find things like genuine mudguards and seat pans) I realised its rarity. Although I had one new in 1979, I did'nt think they were that rare on the road then.
I must start scanning Sweden's eBay for parts
