Just looking at the lines it still seems a little high.

Yes, it is still a bit high on the last pic. I have lowered it another 20mm tonight. I also pulled it another 20mm towards the rear.

Ibsen, off topic here, but I saw a mint KZ400 today. The paint was perfect. It was in the "not for sale" section of a used motorcycle shop.

I think a test ride is essential. You will tear it off immediately if it will produce pulsed turbulences to your head. I would not expect that from a fairing of that small size, but I have not much experience. But I understand that it is fun to spend some time with the bike this way while the snow still keeps you off from riding.

I've never been a fan of the square headlights from the DOHCs. Like when they put square headlights on the Jeeps back in the 80s, it just never seemed... "natural".

Just consider the differences...

I wouldn't consider the CB650Z model to be all round either. :) It's more something in the middle, between the 70's style and the 80's style, so I'm not shure if a round café racer fairing with a round headlight would look the best either.
And I really like that Vincent they are building, but it is more of a 50's or 60's style bike. And I have seen that fairing used on both the classic CB500 and CB750, but they have a different style from the 650Z. In fact, the 650Z shares some it parts with the CX500.

'75 with the blue paint with trim scheme. It was so clean it looked new. You would have drooled.

I guess the CB650C shares more parts with the CX500C than with the CB650Z besides the engine.
I remember coming out of a building some years ago and found my CB standing in front of it. I was a bit irritated as something seemed wrong. I solved it by looking down my legs to find that I did not wear my motorcycle pants. Consequently this could not be my CB. :P (This all happend withing a fraction of a second). In fact it was a CX500C, but it required a closer look to distinguish. Walking around it, I found many parts that looked quite similar to my CB.

I think the 1978 CX500 and the 79 CB650Z share the same wheels, tail, tail light, instruments, center stand, grab rail and front mudguard.

And I think I found the bike line I was looking for.

I took the bike out for the first ride of the season tonight. :D
It was only 10 miles though. But hey, it's still a ride.

The fairing works surprisingly well. The main wind stream hits just at the top of the helmet, and it didn't produce any excessive noise. And the bike was much more fun to ride. It felt much sportier to ride than with the windscreen.

It looks good, too. I like the line. :)

I agree. It fits the bike much more smoothly now. Covering up those headlight ears did the trick!

Yes, that's it now. :D I guess somebody who does not know the CB650 would accept that as original look. It fits much better to the style of the bike than the windscreen before.
