CB650C Cafe Project

Postby ChrisCook302 » Wed Nov 13, 2013 2:33 pm

New to the site and just wanted to post a pic of my cafe project. 1980 CB650C that my dad bought years ago to get running. With him being busy with this and that, I've taken on the project and talked him into a cafe build. Plans are to freshen up the motor, replace the forks, bars, gauges, brakes, 4-into-2 exhaust and cut the tail off and build a custom seat. Keeping the stock wheels and tank. I'll have a "for sale part list" up in a few month once I start tearing it down.

Will do!! This is my first bike. I've rebuilt a dozen or so Mustangs, and I use to do some chassis fab like air ride, lift kits and roll cages. Hopefully this forum will help with some of the things Im not familar with on these bikes or in general.

Welcome, and first bit of advice: Plan your rebuild using the existing airbox. Pods look cool, and they are easier to get on and off, but even with "proper" jetting, they do not work as well.

Thanks! thats good advice. I wanted to use the pod style for that hot rod look but functionality would be ideal.

Welcome here! :D

Looks not bad, just a bit of dust. Probably not that many miles.
If the leakage traces on the engine should be oil, this would be a quite untypical oil leak.

I've built up a few fox body, built a nitrous 351w for one of them, cleaned up an 86 SVO that I found in a barn, caged and wired up a 67 fastback with a blown big block. My daily is a 2006 GT, stock right now, just doing a little cosmetic work and some go fast parts are in its future.

Its been sitting in the garage for 6-7years collecting that dust. It wasnt charging back then. All the rubber needed to be replaced back then too. Its a solid bike just sat too long with no love.

Pulled the tank, battery box, air box and carbs off. Removing the rest of the harness, gauges, and motor this weekend.
