81 CB650C Front Brake Master Cylinder

Postby Jbarth13 » Tue Jun 03, 2014 8:34 pm

Hi all,

My 81 650C has really poor front brake performance - the back brake is significantly more powerful than the front. Being an '81 it has dual disks, and I know the master is not stock, so I believe that is my problem. Before I go for an OE setup, I'd like to know if anyone has tried more modern/powerful master cylinders on their 81 650C. Do people upgrade these?

Thanks,
Jon

Nissin m/c off a Honda 4-wheeler will fit the bars and the 650 banjo bolt will fit it too, ya lose the rh mirror, up to '03 fits a 7/8" handlebar. Since it works dual front brakes on the wheeler it will work fine on the bike, plus it bleeds easier too.

Your problem could also be in your brake lines. If you have the original lines, they can "balloon" and stretch out when the squeeze the brake lever. As a result, you are losing much of the pressure that should be used to operate the brake pistons. If this is happening, a change in MC will not help. When I changed out my old lines for new stainless steel lines, I could not believe the difference.

Sorry to complicate your problem.

Folsomi, if the problem were my lines, would I be able to see them ballooning? Don't feel bad about mentioning another possible diagnosis, I'd like to do this right and if that means brakelines, I appreciate your input!

Probably not. It is happening all along the lines and is so small you probably will not see it.
