Two throttle cables necessary ?

Postby pabs11 » Tue Sep 09, 2014 12:20 am

Hi Guys,

I was working on my bike and I took off the throttle cables to to lube them up. As I completed my lubing task, I went ahead and started to put them back into place. Of course I started to put the main throttle cable on ( The cable the opens the throttle valves) first. I pulled the throttle with no problem to test out my lubing job, and the cable went back to place easily. When installing the second throttle cable, I started to realize, is the second throttle cable even necessary?

I just want to know why theres a second throttle cable and what are your thought about it.

Thanks

its in case the spring fails when the throttle is open,

as it happens I don't have two cables as I have a modified Harley throttle grip that does not have two cables, not had a problem (so far :-))

You dont need it but it's actually a safety feature. If the engine is rushing you need something to stop that and the easiest way is to force the throttle grip back to idle position.
