hi all,ive had my cb650z 1979 for nearly 6 years now and got it to really good condition over that time, will post pics later, I ride it 2-3 times a week )) my best mates dad has had to give up riding due to ill health and in his garage was a 1978 cb400t dream, he has given to me for nothing
went to look at it this morning and to my surprise it started 2nd kick 0 0 ,its a bit rusty(surface rust)chrome pitted, all cosmetic, last time it was on the road was 2011,rode it home and everything seems great engine really smooth etc, gearbox great, actually rides better than my cb650z,
im going to strip it down and give it a good clean as its got so much grease oil and grit everywhere then replace parts as I go,the frame has surface rust so will rub down and treat then paint as best as I can
does anyone use or recommend a really good engine degreaser
thanks
interesting project

This is a GOOD dream!
I degrease engines using pinesol and water. This gets the caked on stuff off, then I soda blast them.

thanks for the recommendation, will that be ok on other parts of the bike as well?

The pinesol works great on carbs as well. The soda blasting seems to work great on anything. I use it to remove surface rust from stuff. It has very little abrasive property to it, so it won't gouge aluminum parts, and it washes away with water, so you don't need to worry about the grit getting into stuff.
