New and bike pics. Identification help!

Postby SnipeJDM » Sat Dec 12, 2015 7:58 pm

Today I picked up what the previous owner told me is a 79 cb650. Glad to be here.

I do need some help though. The vin starts with rc05. Is this a 79 or 80? As you can see it has the curves seat frame. I thought 79s have straight frames.

Also does anyone see anything else that is obvious that can provide me some info. There are tons of wires and hoses that are disconnected that I'm sure I'll need help finding where they go. Thanks everyone.

it is what used to be a 80. The tank is not any 650 tank.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

That's weird but now looking at some pics and comparing I see that the tank is different. What's weird is that the ignition key fits the gas cap.

could be from a honda of the same vintage that uses the same cap. What are your plans with it?

For some reason when I look at the front of the tank it reminds me of a KZ from the late 70's.

Its a Honda tank. It fits the front mount rubbers. Also has the spot on each side for the Honda emblem to mount.

All the big 4 used the same style mounting. The Kawasaki I'm thinking of had screw on tags also.

Welcome here! :D

Guess this bike started as a 1980 Custom. Obviously it suffered a lot since then.
I see lots of work.

Going to part this bike out. If anyone needs anything, let me know. Has early mech slide carbs.

You should probably let everyone know where the bike is located.
