I’m back

Well I’ve been away from this forum for some time.. I sold my CB650C after my first season and moved up to a CB750C... which I promptly sold the next year, and bought a CB900C project bike. (Which unfortunately never made it back on the road. Just got a little overwhelmed with the project, and now because I’m moving to a smaller house, don’t have the room to keep all my bikes.*my daily rider is a 2014 Honda CTX700N, while dependable it’s not the same as a CB four. So.. I just made deal and traded the CB900C and a parts bike for a 1980 CB650. (Not a CB650C this time)

It’s still going to need some work but nothing like the 900. Was surprised to see pods on it.. but the carbs don’t look same as what was on my 650C and it came with the wrong tank. The tank is for a Custom, but the rubber frame tabs don’t line up so may be looking for a new tank soon. Or see if I can get the mount points moved.. there is also the usual signs of neglect. Tires are shot, and the throttle and clutch cables are seized.

But I’m excited about getting this bike up and running. I/ve missed my CB650..

Welcome back, Dean!

The 1979 and 1980 had different carbs that the CV carbs you are used to. The good news is the mechanical slide carbs actually CAN be made to work with the pods.

Thanks Larry.

Good to know. Was afraid I would have to start hunting for an air box.
Now to figure out a solution for the mismatched tank.

Hi Dean and welcome back. I have found a good source of info for the slide carbs should you need it, any info is better than no info to me. Good luck with your new project :)
