Carpy Yoshimura Exhaust for 1979 CB650

Postby DANFROMOZ » Tue Sep 18, 2018 3:36 pm

Hi guys, I'm fairly new here so wanted to say hi, but also wanted to discuss exhausts for CB650's. I've done alot of reading on the forums regarding the differences between CB550, CB650 and the CB750's and it seems there is enough difference that the 550 and 750 exhausts won't fit the CB650, I've been on the phone to Carpy from Carpy's Cafe Racers a few times lately and he's been kind enough to see if he can track down a 1979 CB650 to see if he can provide a CB650 Yoshi style exhaust for us from here on.
I thought I'd see if I could drum up some interest, because if he knows there's a bunch of us waiting, it might encourage this whole process along for future owners to enjoy too. Let me know if you're keen! It really got to me when I realized I couldn't get a Yoshimura style exhaust and it gets to me that CB650's aren't catered for like the other models, I get it, it's a popularity or numbers game, but I can still be annoyed, hoping this can be one thing we can have....Let me know asap, I'll be speaking to him again on Friday.

Hey Danfromoz,

nice to see, that i am not the only one. the problem is, that i sit in germany and i will probably never get a cCarpy Yoshimura Exhaust registered on my bike here! What really got to me was when delkevic released new exhaust systems for almost all of the old honda cbs except the 650 not that long ago. I really want one of these since they look perfect!

But back to topic. Has Carpy made an exhaust for the honda cb650?

Cheers L.

Hi Skiwatcher,
Thanks for the reply. He's still in contact with me and found a 1983 CB650 DOHC the other day and checked with me to see if it would work, but it looks like only a 1979-82 SOHC will work in this case. He'll still keep an eye out though. It was nice that he was at least thinking about it still! Hopefully I can find a way to get it done.
Meanwhile I've ordered a bunch of parts for my build, GSX-R fork conversion, sun rims, rear disc brake conversion, clip ons and Pirelli Angel GT tires, so I'll be setting up a build page soon, I hope you check it out.

Ok cool, I just find that it's difficult to see pics of the stuff I like on a CB650, so I'm going to try to get as many pics and videos of my parts and build as I can, because I know how much I like to see others pics and builds, especially CB650's because they're just different enough from the Cb550 and CB750's, that it means having to mix and match parts to make them work.

someone years ago made a set of 750 headers fit a 650. Either here or on sohc4. Seemed like a lot of work.

Hi CB650, yeh, from what I've gathered, it looks like the width of the pipes is similar to the CB750 but the spacing of them is similar to the CB550...

same as the 550. they used the 550 tooling to make the 650. thats why the cams interchange so easily.

So are you saying that a CB550 exhaust is a direct bolt on and the width of the pipes is the same? So far I've been told otherwise, so it would definitely make things easier if they were.....?

they are the same with but maybe smaller diameter. And the height is wrong. The 650 is taller.

Ok thanks for the info CB650. We'll see what the future holds, it'll be a while until the exhaust is needed, so I'll keep checking things out. Should have my wheels, forks, etc, soon maybe a week or so. I'll get started on a build thread then hopefully.

Hi bendiesel3, Nothing eventuated, but he did stay in touch and he tried to come up with some options. I'd suggest giving him a call, if he hear's from other people wanting the same thing, he said he'd look at creating a jig for it and start supplying them. I'm still in.

Awesome, I’ll give him a call tomorrow and let you know what he says. These 650s always get left out of all the good stuff.

Ok great. I agree, it’s hard work with these 650’s. I should be adding some updates to my build page soon, so take a look and see what you think. Rear hoop and cowl should be next.
