I got my tubing back from the bender today. Now we can start on the rear frame reconstruction. The factory "kong" job will soon be history!

Fianally got a chance to carefully inspect my custom bent rear feame parts...they are unacceptable. So I got some new tubing to try again. Arrgh!

Finally made some progress. test fitting new frame parts to decide where to cut into the frame. found a race car shop to bend some tubing for me, then cut , bend, weld, hope. Rear wheel is blocked up to simulate full shock compression to check tire clearance.

This headlight may pose a wiring change!
These shock mounts took a little while to fabricate. The dremel with a cutoff wheel saves the day again!

Welded! my new years resolution is to become a better welder so that cleanup afterwards doesn't take so long. But then I would miss some of my time meditating with a mill bastard in my hand!

Great progress.
Now you have a nice, straight top rear frame.
The shock mounts look great and I assume it was tough work to make them fit that way.
Do the coils still fit at their original mounts with the lowered tank?
The piston carbs will not fit this cylinder head if you have the full array of four. Spacing is a bit different vs. CV carbs.
I would go to two stainless steel front brake lines to get rid of the connector part below the headlight.

Yes, the coils still fit under the tank, as well as the igniters for the ignition. I wanted to post a picture of the new tray under the seat area to house the fuse panel, reg/rectifier and the start solenoid but my phone says this forum hasn't asked for permission??? Is that like "mother may I"??
The shock mounts were easier to mount with a sacrificial alignment tube in between for welding.
About those carbs...I was surprised that the stock boots were a perfect fit to the '78 Pd42's but I'll need to make a new rack plate and control rods to accept the different spacing. Success will depend on my fab skills. Good news is I'll have the cv carbs in good working order to fall back on.
The brake line splitter gives me a nice place to mount the front brake pressure switch and have one less pair of wires on the handle bars. I may also eliminate the clutch switch on the other side too. It dosen't take long to learn to pull the clutch in when starting!!
I'll consider twin braided lines to the calipers, but I only want one line coming up to the master cylinder.

Here are my update pics, physically small switches in metal for the bars. choke control relocated.
electric tray under the seat area.
proposed battery location just above the swingarm, planning a metal box with faux leather straps. Still plenty of "openness" in the rear triangle.
