Threading

Postby Cteodorski » Fri Mar 31, 2006 11:07 pm

There has been a request made to make the forum threaded. Unfortunately, PHPBB, the software running this forum is not threaded by nature. It was designed to be a a flat forum and not threaded. There does exist a mod that will turn threading on.

It is however a hack add-on. It is called ModyThreading and an example of it can be seen at http://www.mobythreads.com/viewforum.php?f=8. So the question is -- do we keep the forum as is or should I install the mod?

I think that the value of this type of forum is viewing everyones replies to a topic. The threaded example merely shows the title/number of replies, but does not show the content of the replies. That threaded layout just reduces the number of different threads that can be viewed on a single page. Because of this, my vote would be to keep the current layout.

If it ain't broke...

I like it the way it is, I think the other way requires too many clicks.

I join the others to leave it as it is. Maybe you like to do some further categorization of the technical section (engine, cylinder head/camshaft, carbs, wheels+brakes, electric stuff ..) with the present form for easier research when the content grows with time.
