Hi
So I've bought a CB650Z in mint condition but I am thinking of making some small alterations. I actually have an example image of how I want my bike to look like. I thought it would be wise to ask you guys what has been done to the bike in the example image.
So far I could see it's only a different handlebar, different paint job, spokes painted black, different seat... and that's it... or did I miss something?
What is done to this bike?
Re: What is done to this bike?
Yes that is a USA Z model (79 only) with clubman bars. Wheels are stock for that model.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!
Re: What is done to this bike?
What is that for color? Looks like gunmetal grey; i like it.
Re: What is done to this bike?
Beyond the clubman bars, and the removed/missing rear grab bar. That looks to be a clean, refresh of a 79 standard. With a gunmetal grey repaint for a touch of subdued elegance of course. A light touch of black pinstripe to set it off would pull everything together nicely.

Didnt the rear turns mount on the grab bar on them? I have found 2 79's rusting away. One the owners are dumbasses and wont sell. havent seen anyone at the other.

Yes. On the 79. The turns were mount to the grab bar.
Honda went to the taillight mounted turns on the 80 models.

Had to chase the picture back down to get a better look.

The rear turns appear to be mounted to the rear fender mounting holes. Using mounting studs instead of the bumper setting bolts.
It would also be easy to fab up mounting tabs similar to the mounts on the grab bar to use in that location.

Re: What is done to this bike?
The "example" picture does not show a European Z-model (as you bought one, right?) but a '79 US model.
Which means some differences (silver comstars, double disk brake, alumina plates at footpegs, indirect shifter mechanism, no chromed chain guard, tail light directly behind seat and many more details).
So although it looks different, as written basically only handlebars had been changed at this "example" bike.
