Turn signal mount question.

Postby MEHall » Tue Jan 14, 2014 6:11 pm

For those that have the round turn signals on your 650 bikes, how do the mounts look and how are they mounted on the front fork? :?:

A picture says more than words, as they say.

And for those that have the more square type of turn signal:
If you have mounted mini turn signals on the original mounts how does the new mounts look? :?:

Unlike the Z-model, the RC05 (round) front turn signals are not mounted on the forks but at the headlight mounts which are just slipped over the fork between the upper and lower triple tree. See parts 14 and 15 in
http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/H ... parts.html
The turn signals are mounted on these bottom studs.

I see! So the model i have with the more square turn signal is not identical when it comes to the turn signal assembly.
Not to good for me then. :(

I have these:

But with clear glass like these:

My idea was to mount these on the original tongue like mount, but then i need a kind of adapter so i wonder if someone here have done that and how it was done?

Basically there is not much really identical between RC03 and RC05 except the engine. Although many similar parts at a first glance.
Even the (most common, there seem more) RC03 types, the Z-model and the US 1979 are different. E.g. here turn signals look similar but already the tail light is different. Not to talk of silver inverse comstars, alumina footpeg plates, double disk, ....

So this is a CB 650 RC05:

Image

And this is my bike:

Image

A CB650 RC03 if i'm right.
The pic was taken before I had to remount the original rear fender. Some oaf who owned the bike before me, have put in some 15 amp fuses when it should only be 10 amp.
Hence my electrical problem (read my first posts).
That oaf, i think, have cut the electrical wires to all of the original turn signals and cut the rear mounts too.  :x

Image

So i wonder if anyone, that have the same type of bike as me, have use the original mounts and placed any kind of mini turn signals on them? And how was it done?
Any other solution on how to mount those mini turn signals is welcome too.

Well no biggie though, to bad i dint take a photo of the CB 650 i saw here in Sweden outside the Isle of Man Club motorcafé. It had a kind of mini turn signals mounted on the tongue like original mounts.
I May have posted a bit soon but let the ideas roll in if you got them!

You have to excuse me but that dont look at all as my mounts!

If you look carefully at this pic you se why:

Image

As you can se the type of mount i have is easy to remove. The mount and the turn signal is two separate items and the part with the bolts have a tongue like part that goes into the turn signal.

Nice looking turn signal tough.

Right, 1981 standard means RC05 slip on fork mounts.

I begin to think not much of the members here either have the same CB 650 model is i dont have modded a mount that fits on that mount that is bolted on the fork. Am i right in one of my assertions? :?:

Most guys here are from the U.S.
The Z-model typically was sold in Europe and a few overseas locations.
Only the (rather rare) US 1979 model has the RC03 frame like the Z-model and similar turn signals.

I am not sure if your turn signal mounts may be bolted to a RC05 fork, too, as I think the two bolt holes should be there. But as written in fact RC05 just do not have these mounts.

I have noticed that, as there is the bolt that holds the fork leg and a separate smaller bolt that holds that turn signal mount on the fork. Well it's of no bigger importance that i cant found what i'm looking for. I have an idea how to mod a turn signal mount that fits on that kind of fork mount i have, but it would be great to see how someone else had solved it first.

Well one last post before i let this die!

Does anyone here recognise this kind of mount and if you do have you modified small turn signals to fit that mount?

That is my bike.
