This is the general route I took, round trip, on my CB650z during the summer of 2012. I only took smaller highways on the way south—no autobahns—and took my sweet time over three days.
On the way back, I was in a time crunch, so took the autobahns through Switzerland and Germany.
Great trip and the bike held up great, even in the Alps!

Yes, looks like a nice trip.
Used to ride around there with my CB in the 1990's, too.

Beautiful!
I remember those mountains.
The valley d'Aosta into Italy was also thrilling. Took a day trip there for lunch then back to Aime in France.
