Hi,
Picked up a 1983 650cc Nighthawk for $250, didn't run so I trailered it home. First it needed a starter solenoid and a battery. Then, I cleaned the carbs really good and changed the float bowl gasets, they were all swollen. It idles and revs up with no choke after warming it up a few minues. I was going to take it for a spin but I decided it needed new oil and a filter first, and now im stuck.... I thought I had the filter housing bolt on tight, but it wasn't and leaked oil everywhere, when I went to tighten the bolt more I rounded the s$#t out of it. I spend half the afternoon with a hacksaw and dremel grinding disks to get the housing off with no luck... I'll go at it again tomorrow, I'll borrow an air compressor and die grinder from my work ( I do sales at an auto repair shop). I really hope I didn't cross thread the bolt into the engine block . I change oil sometimes at work to help out the techs and I've never made such a dumb rookie mistake like that... will post some pics soon. Wish me luck.

Welcome to the forum. I was hoping that your bike had the spacer between the crankcase and the oil filter bolt, but I do not see one on the parts fiche. I hope it is not too damaged.

Welcome.. A 83 should be a dual cam shaftie bike. This site is geared more for the older sohc 650's. But we like all. I have a 84 for parts if you need anything.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!
