Balancing carbs with a Morgan Carb Tune

Postby Ibsen » Fri Mar 03, 2006 1:03 pm

This how I set up I'm using for balancing the carb. The Morgan tool is very easy to use, and I'm using the bikes fuel tank with an extended fule hose.

As you can see on the first picture, the carbs was out of balance. For synching the carbs, screw off the cover on top of carb #1,3 and 4. Carb #2 is the reference carb and it doesn't have an adjustment screw.
Loosen the lock nut and adjust with the slotted screw. And be patient. Locking the lock nut sometimes is enough to disturb the adjustment, so you often have to do it more than once. If the engine gets to hot, take a brake and let it cool down a bit.
The ultimate result is when all 4 carbs are equal. But that is often very hard to acchieve. A difference between the carbs that is less than 1 cm/hg is very good.

Hey,

Just noticed that your seat folds on a hinge, very cool! Is that stock? Or did you add it?

My seat folds on a hinge, too. Pretty sure that's a stock feature of Jap bikes from that era.

The 79Z model was the only 650 with the hinged seat in the US. Z model went on untill when? in the other markets.

The European Z model went on from November 1978 to February 1982.
The US Z model from January 1979 to December 1979.

Ibsen,

Do the bar end weights make much of a difference? Can you see images in your mirrors over 80 km/h?

They do make a small difference, but I put them there more for the looks. :) These weights are not very heavy, and the mirrors still vibrate though, at leats in speeds over 100 km/h.

There are heavier bar end weights to be found that will work better.
