Changing fork oil

Postby saber » Thu Nov 13, 2014 7:10 pm

Hi,
I am planning to change the fork oil on my 1979 CB650 for the first time. The question I have is what happens to the springs when I remove the 17mm bold on top? Will the spring pop out the top? ...any advice?

Also, what oil do you recommend

Thanks,
Saber

It will pop out, but it is not uncontrollable. When it starts getting close to being all the way out, cover it with a shop rag and your hand.

If you do them both on the bike make sure the front is supported.

ATF is a good stand by but if you want to change dampening use fork oil of diff weight. Many articles and threads on it.

Thanks for all the great information. The manuals only explain the basic steps, but not what to watch for on each step....thanks
