Rearsets

Postby MJMNY » Fri Dec 26, 2014 6:46 pm

Does anyone have a tried and true solution to installing rear sets on a '79?

This apparently works, but is awfully ugly:

Then there are these, which are a lot more elegant, but not specifically designed for the 650 frame (the first is supposed to fit CB500, CB550, CB750, the second is for all years of the 750K):

I've sent an email to the manufacturer to see if they have info regarding 650 fitment, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has a good working solution already for replacing the original foot controls with universal rear sets, without ditching the rear foot peg.

A belated Merry Xmas to all!

Thanks, Matthew

Sorry for the massive images, can't figure out how to edit and repost them at a more reasonable size...

Welcome to the forum! I removed your huge pictures. Thanks for reposting smaller ones.

I have no experience with what you are trying to do. Hopefully someone will come along with some suggestions.

Another way for someone to answer this question might be: is it possible that a bracket could fit on the cb500, cb550 and cb750K, but not on the cb650?

Just going by the frame diagrams on Partzilla, the CB650 and CB750K do seem a little different in that area.

from what i have seen, they say the 550 frames are identical to the 650 frame.

The only thing that is the same about the 550/650 frames is the engine mounting.

Rearsets usually require frame modification to remove the rear peg mount. An easy bolt on solution is not likely to exsist for the 650.

For the record, there are already two bolt on solutions to mount rearsets on the 650.

The first is the massive set of plates made by Raask, pictured in my original post, above.

The second I'll attach a photo of, below: fairly similar to the aftermarket set made by Raask, it's the original from the 650Z (Euro model), which seems to have come standard with the rearsets and OEM adapter plates.
