That should be better.
I'm thinking I could take it to my guy to remove the bolt... whats left of it, and seal it up with a weld job. Any thought? THeres no crack leaving the area affected, it broke clean off in those two pieces.

One certainly can weld alumina.
But I doubt that one can weld oxidized stuff. And when it starts to come off in layers - as it looks like in your case- it is very oxydized and no longer very similar to alumina.
Appropriate thread title btw.

Might be better off just permanently plugging that mess, and drilling/tapping another hole with a new plug (and some anti-seize!)?

Hahaha, exact sound I made when it was discovered. Hadnt thought about the oxidation but my guy seemed very sure of it.
I couldnt care about replacing the plug. Id be happy if it sealed again and held pressure. It is my understanding that its original design was just during the manufacture process and doesnt serve an important role. If I was really set on leaving an access point, the opposite end could be drillled and taped.
Either case, picking it up tomorrow and will report back then.

This looks all right!
It should withstand about 3-4bars.

Thats plenty. Now I just need to track down a rear bearing set ring for the gear shaft.
