Hi!
I have a 1981 CB650 with 8k miles (yeah, no typo)
It has a big delay in acceleration. At first, from stop, it feels like it's missing power when accelerating, then vroom!
Here's some bullet points:
• In any gear, when I accelerate, the RPMs rise a bit, but after about 2 seconds of acceleration, it accelerates a lot. The jump in speed throws me back like ridn a bull.
• when it jumps in acceleration, the sounds from the mufflers completely changes. It sounds as if new cyclanders are firing that we not. Sounds like the Jestsons cars!
• Exhausts 1 and 4 and only warm to touch. 2 and 3 are VERY hot. Has to be hundreds of degrees in difference.
What I have and have not done:
I light tested the charge on all 4 plugs and 1 and 4 were very dim. A new left coil and all for were bright. (Left coil charges plug 1 and 4 if yea didn't know) We disconnected plug 2 and 3 and the bike fired fine on only 1 and 4.
I synced all carbs very well.
I have no vacuum leaks.
I hav't looked at my timing.
Should I clean the carbs? Check the timing? Check compression?
Thanks!
Andrew
Delayed acceleration (getting whiplash)
Re: Delayed acceleration (getting whiplash)
1)check for GOOD Spark and clean grounds, wires, caps , plugs, coils- until you get it on all four. & (Power to Coils and Good Ground)
2) Check fuel level (float Level)
3) Check for Good Fuel delivery, Clean Entire fuel system
Then Basic Tune up procedures.
You will find it.

Just a shot in the dark here. But maybe plugged pilot jets?
