Oil stop lamp

Postby Nor79 » Sat Oct 10, 2015 8:29 pm

I went on a long ride. I was about 50 miles from home and my oil stop lamp came on. It was a little low on oil but not nearly low enough for the lamp to come on. I had some 20/50 with me and top off. The lamp continued to stay on all the way home. I checked my stop light bulb and was working ok. I noticed that when I was running 55mph I was at About 4500rpm. I don't really notice loss of compression at all. May be oil pump issues. Any ideas out there.

Low oil pressure could be caused by oil pump leakage, pump failure, or severely worn main bearings. In rare cases, the oil pressure switch itself could be stuck open. The first thing I would try (because it is the easiest) would be to pull the oil pressure switch off and clean it.

Be advised that if the oil pressure is low, the engine should not be run.

Mine has been giving me problems too. I pulled the outer rocker and getting good oil on top. Partszilla has now press censors for about 25.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

Had time to pull off the left cover. I see that oil is coming out of the thread hole of the oil stop light sending unit located on the top of the oil pump. Do to the fact that I made it home from so far away, I would think that my oil pump is still operating. Would there be a need to do anything other then change the sending unit?
