Gasket set

Postby Vatch » Thu Aug 17, 2006 7:20 pm

I know there are many more warm months to ride, but I'm thinking about winter repairs. My bike has a few needs for replacement gaskets. The first cylinder is leaking pretty good according to my left boot. I am thinking about getting the complete set. Top end gaskets are dry or leaking and all the o-rings look like they can use to be replaced. Where can I get the best gaskets for the best price?

CR2C Online

Parts n' More (although I think they were out of stock the last time I checked)

And of course there are some that show up on Ebay from time to time... It's where I bought my last complete kit for $65.

The small O-Rings are the origin of the typical cylinder head oil leaks that do boot maintenance. Smoothing the seat of these O-rings (at mine there is a visible and feelable concentric pattern from machining) might help to increase the intervals, but I unfortunately forgot about it this time again. :? So I have to run it for another 100000km to find out whether it helps. :P
It also is a good idea to use a bit sealant on the six coin-like rubber cylinder bolt caps in case they are a somewhat older (like e.g. 25 years ).

In the gasket set I bought from David Silver in England, the o-rings for the oilways was made out of nitrile rubber. They are much better than the original rubber o-rings. And so far (after 10 000 kilometers), the top end has been completely oil tight.

I found the interval is about 25tkm (when it starts a bit) to 40tkm (when you do not need shoe-polish any more :D).
It is recommendable to use high quality O-rings at this location. I use Viton (tm) which I buy separately. It is adressed to have a high temperature digestibility.

So I"m the high bidder for $30US. I know, with 3 days left to bid I have exhibited a poor ebay strategy. Oh well, I've got some time to get a good deal on the set :D

I will take some nice photos when I pull the engine apart, but some of the gaskets are, well, barely there. What is left is rather hard.

I don't know if you can get them from Honda, but you can get one from David Silver Spares or Bitzforbikes in UK. And from http://www.mrcycles.com/ in USA.

How many parts is the complete gasket set? There are some one ebay ($95) with 46 pieces. It does not look like the set contains float bowl gaskets. Anyone know if these are part of the complete gasket sets? I would venture to guess the bike has many more than 46 gaskets.

i think the complet set is just engine. carbs are seperate. then there is just a top end set also.

I also would expect that as two different carb types (piston and CV) are available.
If however carb gaskets should be included, check out whether they are the ones you need.
