lost all power while cranking over.

If it's broken or just needs tweaked

lost all power while cranking over.

Postby trichard310 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 11:45 am

So my bike was running fine yesterday. Went out to start it this morning, and while it was cranking over, it lost all power. Battery is good, fuses are good, grounds look good. I did hear a little click under the seat the moment the power went out. Looking for advice and guidance on what to check next???? Thanks 81 cb650

The main fuse is on the starter solenoid. It sounds like this fuse popped. When it does, your bike will do exactly what you are describing.

Fuse is good. That's the first thing I checked.

These fuses have been known to develop hairline breaks that can drive us nuts. Just something to check.

when you say you lost all power is this the power to crank, or is everything else dead (horn, lights etc.)

assuming you have power to other circuits, check the starter solenoid by momentarily bridging the solenoid connections with thick copper wide. If it cranks it would indicate an issue with the solenoid or the wiring from the switch
