questions about gasket adhesive

Postby cruiserlover » Fri May 20, 2016 1:25 pm

I do not want to split the cases. If the cam chain and crank looks good I won't.But a suzuki gs is my only experience with engine rebuild. On those you use no glue ever. Not head gasket, cylinder base gasket, case split, nowhere. If you do it will leak oil. Also when the head is removed on those bikes a small sized rubber o ring fits down in a groove on the block.easy to remove and replace.Still no glue.I have downloaded a manual, have not looked at it in detail. My plan is to replace cylinder base gasket, I heard there are 2 green orings somewhere to replace, head gasket, clean and rebuild the carbs.Hope and pray I get all the passages clean the first time.I went with the 650 because it is beautiful, its rarity, and because i knew i would get tickets and or hurt on a 750 supersport.Input appreciated.

All gaskets should go on dry. The o-rings you will replace are #6 at this link:

I find Partzilla to be very handy when you want to see a diagram of how something should go together. 8)

There are a couple pucks on the head that could be replaced while you are in there too. They stop oil from getting onto the bolts that hold the head down IIRC. Of course #4 in that diagram could be done too.
