Installing a digital tach

Postby tswen95 » Fri Jul 01, 2016 9:10 am

Hey guys, this is my first time posting. I have a 1980 cb650 that I turned into a cafe racer. I'm looking to put a digital tachometer on replacing the stock one but I dont understand how to go from the mechanical tach to the digital one. Is there some sort of converter I need to install? I am also interested in doing the same for the speedometer but that'll be after since my stock tachometer needs to be replaced already. Links to parts would be appreciated but any advice would be great!

Thanks,
Tal

As both is mechanical you suerly need a converter, sadly i dont know where to get any. It would be fun to know where they may be if they exist.

Welcome here! :D

A digital tach typically makes use of the ignition signal, e.g. by a wire to a coil. Not that the CB650 fires every turn (like a two stroke would need to) due to the two series ignition circuits. So you may have to consider a factor of two for the setting/reading of the tach.
