Engine

Postby Hawk213 » Wed Aug 17, 2016 4:20 pm

Is there a blueprint/template type manual of any sort for engine bolt positions? (Not sure the correct wording there) I've made the mistake of forgetting which bolts go where exactly and don't want to put incorrect bolts in wrong spots. Any links for 81 Cb650? Websites. Etc. thanks fellas.

Well, in the manual linked below there are some drawings that provide some visual hint. So you roughly get to know where the longer bolts go in. E.g. page 10-0 is for the crankcase and there are other drawings like that, too.
But if your really want to know and compare the correct millimeter lengths, try -again for the crankcase - http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/H ... parts.html.
There you even can find out how many bolts of which length you are supposed to have.
Quite useful if the engine came out of part boxes.

Yeah parts diagrams are your best bet. I was given two tubs of parts for the top end of my 83, with all the bolts and caps in one giant ziploc bag. Laid them all out to compare how many of each size I had and spent about four hours looking at exploded diagrams to get them all situated. Fun? Debatable...but very gratifying once it's done. Always been a sucker for a good puzzle.

Thanks for the reply fellas. Volker, I'm needing bolt size positions for the cylinder head cover. Sorry, I should've implied that.

You can figure out for every part yourself for the most Hondas (and also other brands if you click up one level) at:
http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Honda/parts.html
You find the CB650 head cover at:
http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/H ... parts.html

The below picture shows the pattern to be used for the stepwise torque sequence. I really commend a small enough torque wrench, to follow the pattern and to torque the bolts in several steps. It may take some time but finally it will be still faster than one can insert Helicoils.
The bolts marked "A" get copper washers.
If you reuse the six rubber pucks that cover the center head bolts, a bit of sealant may be helpful there, too.

Either I'm confused or this isn't what I'm looking for. Or maybe this is the only diaphragm available for this. But I'm looking to know exactly what size bolts Go where. For eg, what size bolts go in bolt holes 1,2,3 and 4?! Etc.

I measured the bolts then set them in groups. I then measured the hole depths so that none of the bolts bottomed out.
