1981 CB650 brake modifications.

Postby Trevdawg » Sat Mar 04, 2017 10:16 pm

I have a 2012 triumph 675 sport bike. It has dual calipers in the front like the 650's. I ride track and use my front brakes 90% of the time.
I just picked up a 1981 cb650 today. And it has dual calipers up front as well. Naturally I'm going to use my front brakes A LOT. Is there any type of upgrade that is a direct bolt on?

I split this into it's own thread, since it wasn't really related to the other thread topic.

I've been looking into this a bit. So far it looks like you need to make an adaptor to bolt on any other caliper. Braided brake lines help a bit. My cousin drilled out his stock rotor but this didn't seem to make a significant change.

There are people adapting GS forks for these bikes, then you can use the front wheel and brakes from the donor bike.(you need new crowns and a machine shop.) The late 70s goldwings and cb750 have the same diameter forks. Not sure if the brakes are any better though.
