Floats will not seat

Postby mhaurlkl » Sun Apr 23, 2017 9:13 am

I have an 82 . Apparently with the crappy carbs. I cannot get the floats to seat. When I put suction on the petcock valve the bowls fill then they over flow. i have o rings in there as seats. without the o rings the floats bottom out before engaging the seat. They are the plastic floats so there is no adjustment available. The new float needles are the same height as the originals.

any ideas?

Did you shine the float needle seats when you cleaned them? Something crud may be keeping them from seating. Also, have you tried tapping the bowl with a screwdriver handle or something similar. Sometimes this is all it takes to get them to seat the first time.

I assume the floats are in the right way? It seems odd they won't even close like they did from the factory. They might be different heights but they should close on the bench when you are assembling them.
