Good morning all,
I'm a first time bike owner and so excited to ride! I bought a 1982 cb650 yesterday, Stanley, he didn't run. I wanted a project and definitely got it. Replaced the battery, emptied the fuel tank, and put new fuel in. Cleaned all the mud and other miscellaneous grime off of him. The bike will start for a moment now, but quickly dies. Two of the carburators stay open, the middle two, and the others stay closed. Is this how they should be? Does anyone have any hints on what to do next? Haven't actually taken the carbs out yet, planning on doing that tonight and cleaning then.
Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum!
Your carbs almost certainly need cleaning. It's not hard to do. Here is a link to a manual that explains in great detail how to clean them:

Your carbs are not exactly like the ones in the manual, but the techniques are the same.
