Std or cv which is better

Postby Hotrodhalfton73 » Sun Jun 18, 2017 11:55 am

Which is better performance wise 1980 and down with mech carbs or 1981 and up with CV carbs? Also are the heads any differant/better other than intake port spacing? I would think CV carbs would be more finiky with mods and more at home on a stock engine.

If it's the PD carbs you mean then i think no one of them likes it if you mod the intake side.

The main difference is that the PD carbs are more responsive.

The older mechanical carbs are greatly improved by sealing off the vacuum port to the air-valve. Those valves are only to prevent back-firing on sudden closing of the throttle, which they do by giving the bike more throttle right when you might not want it

Those air valves also have the annoying habit of making the bike run erratically under load, when the springs get old & weak
