Had some trouble with the worn key only working properly in the fuel cap. Had a key made from the code on under side of fuel cap, guaranteed to work "as long as the mechanism functions properly". I took a chance and $20 worth of factory specs key later, no luck.
After several minutes staring at the bike and hating my decision I noticed the helmet lock. The new key works there. You can see where this goes and it worked out good although I no longer have a helmet lock.

I have never had a problem with any keys or locks on any motorcycle so I have never really had a need to examine an ignition other than check the connections. I didn't even know that you could take them apart, so well done to you for sorting it out 8) It is something that I now know to check if the need ever arises.

It's pretty obvious to me whats wrong there, one of the brass pieces is bent out of the shape. Either you bend it back or try to make a new one, that should solve any problem with the lock i think.

Whatever works though, just so long the most important lock is functional.

I have never used a helmet lock after a mate of mine had his rather expensive helmet stolen by some git cutting his strap. I think sprygurr showed amazing ingenuity doing what he did, I'd have gone on ebay looking for a replacement set of locks
