gas tank

Postby matt_cull » Wed Jan 24, 2018 11:06 am

Does anyone know of a new gas tank replacement unit that I can put on my 1982 nighthawk 650. I'm in the process of fixing up a few loose ends, like tank and exhaust. I have good exhaust but it was painted by the previous owner and it wasn't well done, so now I need tofix it some how (it also is not original i think, i have a 4-2, but it came stock with 4-4 I think)

Thank you

, I don't know about a replacement tank unless you could find a decent secondhand one.

That is the only tank that will bolt in. 83 was all diff.

GS that is the STOCK exhaust for the nitehawk. Also the 80 and 81 customs.

They did make a STANDARD model also all 3 years that was a 4-2.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

Yes, I know that is the standard Nighthawk exhaust and some of the Customs had the same set up, but the early Customs had the 4 into 2 that had shorter silencers (mufflers?) than the standard road models. The early 650 Customs had spoked wheels with a single disc brake on the front. This picture is of my Custom when I bought it, the front wheel is from a CB500/550 as the chrome was totally shot on the original, the 4 into 2 is the stock exhaust.

Thanks matt, but it has changed a bit since that picture, it now has the comstar wheels on it and it is a hell of a lot cleaner. There were a few early Customs that had comstar single disc up front and I managed to find a set, they are a straight swap for the spoked wheels.

All 80 customs had single disk front comstars. I have 3. Yours even has the standard rear shocks not the customs.
The only shorty 4-2 there are is aftermarket slipons.

I'd better give Honda a call and tell them they never made this exhaust then

CB, I think I know where the confusion comes from  What you guys in the US call a standard bike is known in the UK as a factory custom due to the lawnmower handlebars and the cut down seat height. A standard CB650 in the UK would be the CB650Z road bike

No, I've had it less than a year but it is a US bike imported to the UK in 2001.
