I am working on cleaning and restoring a 1979 cb650. The price was right and I figured why not... Well the more I dig in the more I find it may have been an ambitious first time café project.. However to my current problem. When cleaning the carbs i ran across the choke linkage broken.. From what I have researched you can replace with a metal one from 750's wondering where I can get my hands on one. All the posts I found were quite old.. Thanks for the help in advance!

Re: 79 carb choke linkage broke!
Hi and welcome, you mean like this?
I was lucky to find this on ebay, its from a 1976/77 CB750 but I don't think they are or were available separately, you had to buy the rest of the linkage. Where are you located?Re: RE: Re: 79 carb choke linkage broke!
Yes I think that is it! I have been looking through ebay but no dice right now. I am in Minnesota.GeorgeSweety wrote:Hi and welcome, you mean like this?I was lucky to find this on ebay, its from a 1976/77 CB750 but I don't think they are or were available separately, you had to buy the rest of the linkage. Re: 79 carb choke linkage broke!
I have seen somewhere on the interwebby where the choke shaft was fixed by welding an extra piece on to the shaft and a lever was then bolted on to the extended part to create a manual choke lever. I'll see if I can find it again and post a link. Please bear in mind that it is nearly bedtime in the UK so I may have to search for it in the morning.

Found it straight away, unfortunately the pictures have gone due to that lousy Photobucket crapping out last year, but the description and a crude sketch are still there.

It seems like a viable alternative if you couldn't find a replacement.

Wow that is interesting and might just work! I will keep looking awhile for a replacement and than might be left to that option. Thanks for the info!GeorgeSweety wrote:Found it straight away, unfortunately the pictures have gone due to that lousy Photobucket crapping out last year, but the description and a crude sketch are still there.

If you do go that way can you update the rest of us with any pitfalls or benefits to your method. The one thing that I would make sure of is to get an extension piece welded on absolutely straight.
