Tire Recommendation

Postby MikeD » Thu Mar 28, 2019 9:04 am

I first want to start off by saying THANK You to everyone here for all the information on this site. Im a first time bike owner who plans on doing most of the work myself on a somewhat neglected 1980 CB650 Custom. Most of the stuff seems pretty overwhelming but all the posts are very helpful. I have even used a few of the posted tips already. The ratchet strap to pull back the airbox and heat gun on the carb boots worked like a charm. The carbs came right off.

So while im working on engine gaskets I was going to order new tires because the current ones are cracked. I have the ComStar rims and looking for some suggestions.

Thanks Again Everyone
Mike

I do not have a special brand recommendation but avoid tires that were available in more or less similar type when the bike was new.
In particular the rear tire makes a huge difference when it comes to ride around corners.
The stock Dunlops turned the CB650 into a dangerous bike where it just rolls fine otherwise with modern tires.
Anyway the CB650 chassis is poor even with modern tires. I found that stronger front springs and heavier fork oil additionally help a bit, but the result is still off from a modern chassis.
