How to lower the front end?

Postby Moto Pilot Customs » Tue Apr 02, 2019 12:12 pm

I'm bobbing a 1980 CB650 Custom and just added a voodoo hardtail kit to the frame. Which in turn lowered the bike 2.75" (and lengthened the bike 3.75").

I want to level out/lower the bike and I can't simply slide the forks up the triple clamp without using a tall bar riser. Plus that would look pretty lame.

My only thought is to shorten the springs at this time. realizing that you need to consider how much travel you are left with and ensuring the tire doesn't hit the oil filter during up travel. That could ruin your day (and your bike)

Any alternative idea's?

I shortened the forks on mine by shortening the springs and using a bushing to lower them internally. Found the method on Honda Choppers. I didn't go as short as they did, I only lowered mine 1.25".

Ps, I've started watching your series... Nice to see someone else working on a 650!
