Guard on sprocket. What is this?
As most of you know there is a flange looking guard on the rear sprocket of the CB650 (1980). What is its purpose? Can I flip the sprocket over so you don't see the guard?
Re: Guard on sprocket. What is this?
Welcome here!
The factory sprockets did have this guard at the outside. Probably it should generate some confidence for cases where the chain jumps off the sprocket but I doubt it would be of any positive effect in such case.
The most important issue to avoid such problems is to care for correct drive chain tension and swap the sprocket before the teeth are gone.
Especially do not wait until the situation where it is not the clutch that slips!

Re: Guard on sprocket. What is this?
Thanks bud. I flipped the sprocket over so you can't even see the guard so much. Was wondering if it could be an issue but it seems not to be.
