Clutch slipping... or?

Postby Steffense » Sun Apr 28, 2019 12:20 pm

Hello.

On my 650sc i have a problem with the clutch.. atleast so i think.

When i turn on the motor and put it in first gear and release the clutch lever, nothing happens, machine revs up fine but wont drive.

When the bike is on centerstand the rear wheel will turn slowly in neutral and when in 1st gear the rear wheel will spin fast when adding power from throttle.

Im thinking its the clutch, it was cleaned out about 3 months ago, but havent run i like 3-4 years.

Any other thoughts than clutch issue?

This sounds like something more severe than a "wrong oil" or clutch iear issue.
Did you try to push the bike in 1st gear?
Typically the engine should not turn but the rear wheel would stay blocked then.
If you are in first gear on the main stand with some thottle as you reported, will it stop the engine, too, if you step on the rear brake?

There is a basic clutch adjustment described on page 3-17 in the manual linked below.
If you won't get it fixed that way possibly something went wrong assembling your clutch.

Have a look beneath the sprocket cover, too.

Took the clutch appart and discovered the punch mark wasnt aligned up correctly with the dot underneath, causing the pressure plate not to fully engage.
Thanks for the input! Clutch is now working :-)
