Cam Lobe Wear
Hello - this is my first post. I recently purchased a 1980 CB650c with about 38,000km. The engine leaked oil and started to rebuild the engine. I found some pitting on the cam shaft and was wondering what if anything I should do. Have it ground, replace it with a new used one or use it as is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Doug

Re: Cam Lobe Wear
Welcome here!
As the surfaces next to the pitting look smooth and without loss of material and there are no color patterns I would not worry too much.
Of course the opposite surface of the rocker arms should also still look reasonable.
I would listen for ticking noises at idle and keep an eye on the valve specs. This way you only risk the rocker arms which are not that expensive or hard to get. If no problems that way, you may just keep it as it is.
Anyway It may be worth keeping your eyes open for an opportunity for a replacement cam just to be safe.
I would regard this as a hint to check the oil system, especially the calibrated nozzles at the bottom gasket level. In particular in case you found a lot of sealant or other stuff at the oil pump filter screen inside the oil pan.
