Iggy pickups

I was having one short out on me. Replaced it with one I had but has anybody taken one apart to see what goes wrong? Cant inagine there is much to them. Just need to cut it I suppose.
Did you clean the tank out?!?!?!?!

I would think it would have a coil of coper wire rapped around a metal bar and maybe a diode but I have never cracked one open.

It's usually not easy to see what can go wrong in a coil winding in such a small thing. The winding is either broken or short-circuited. :roll:
And the diode can be broken too.

diodes can be burnt up on the inside and not look like it is bad as well

Only thing mine would work fine when cold. When hot one would cut out and by the time I got stoped and ready to check it would cool off enough to work. I just changed it cause I had one extra and that fixed it.

Sounds like a cut in the winding with the gap opening when the pickup heats up. One may be able to verify the thermal effect being located directly at the pickup by riding without the right crankshaft cover (on not too dusty roads).
