carb help
i have a 1980 cb650c with keihin pd 26mm carbs, can anyone tell me if 26mm keihin carbs from a 1977 cb550 will fit? also how about the carbs from a newer 650 nighthawk, (will they line up, are the throttle cables the same etc.) thanks for any help.

it should be just a matter of rejetting the carbs to match the old ones as long as they will line up properly. from what i can tell the old carbs were only used for one year and they are in pretty bad shape, i am having trouble findeng all the parts i need. i wanted to see if i could swap them to something a little more common.
Re: carb help
be aware that the CV and the piston carbs do not line up but require different cylinder heads!

What is wrong with your carbs, and what parts do you need?
Siriusconic in Canada used to have rebuild kits for these carbs, but if I remember correctly they content a float valve, and the float bowl gasket and the the different o-rings. If you need jets you will have to try a Honda dealer or one of the online shops dealing with carb jets.

the carbs need complete gasket sets(about $30 each carb) and accelerator pump diaphram( $60 ). i had this bike given to me and i dont know anything about it. i dont want to spend almost $200 on it only to find out it needs another $200 (and another and another) it has good compression and is pretty good shape but i might just part it out. thank you for your help.
I think you can get the accel pump diaphragm much cheaper that $60 from Siriusconic in Canada. They used to have the rebuild kits as well:

If you can fix the carbs, and the bike looks decent, why not give it a chance. If you decide to part it out eventually, it shouldn't be too hard to cover the expenses for the carb parts.
What kind of milage does it have?

I bought mine with that mileage at 1992. Now it has about 60000. A smashed tooth at 4.th gear at 40000 was my only serious engine problem. Cylinder head leaking gets annoying about every 25000 or so. Still first pistons and running fine, but started using oil at higher rpm at about 45000. Maintenance is nothing complicated, except for the carbs I find everyhing is easy to access and to change.
If you get ahead with the chassis (which is more than a bit archaic ), the engine is no problem and the CB650 is a quite reliable motorcycle to have a lot of fun with for many years.
just thought someone might like to know i found all the carb parts i need at very good prices. check them out. http://www.z1enterprises.com/default.aspxst
