changing #2 and #3 sparkplugs
I went to change my sparkplugs the other day and I couln't even get the socket down into the hole on the #2 and #3 sparkplugs. Do I need a specialized wrench for this?
Hi, Justin. Yes, you need a special thin walled socket like the one found in the OEM tool kit pictured in this diagram:

The spark plug wrench is item number 6 in the diagram. It has holes drilled in the end that sticks out so that you can insert a screwdriver to turn it with. It's probably best to try and find the OEM tool because the length can be an issue. I've heard that some aftermarket spark plug tools need to be cut down to fit. Or, if you look around the forum there's a nifty thread where somebody describes how you can fashion one at home if you're in a pinch. Ah, here it is:

It's a 12mm wrench you need, but as mentioned above it has to be a box-spanner type - i.e. thin wall steel. I got one off ebay which was said to be from a CX500, and it works perfectly. There's loads of CX500's being broken so that might help you track one down.
regards, Phil
Edited to correct size. I did put 10mm, hope I didn't send you off to get the wrong bit! apologies

Spark Plug socket
Go to your local NAPA and buy the better quality 18mm deep socket. Doesn't have the rubber insert to hold the plug but is thin enough to fit in my 81. Just use a 3/8 hose to take it the rest of the way out.
