Replacement Front Sprockets

Postby Vatch » Tue Mar 28, 2006 8:56 pm

The sprocket on the right is the OEM sprocket with the correct Honda part number (23801-426-000 530 16T) for a ’79. The 426 designates it as for a ’79 cb650. Note the raised inner portion (~ 1.7 mm) that permits proper tightening of the sprocket onto the drive shaft. The sprocket on the left is a replacement sprocket that is identical to the OEM except it lacks the raised portion so it is a little loose when installed and allows for side-to-side movement.

The left one without the step is for the CB400. Advantage is that you can turn it around when it starts to show wear. I occasionally had one like that and my transmission shaft did not suffer so far. Washers are required for alignment.
With one step is for the CB650. No turning around.
There is also one with this step on both sides for the CB750 but I think it won't fit on the shaft.
You get to know this when it takes your dealer several efforts to order the correct one. :?

I had one that was too thick and wouldnt let the retainer ring line up. Took it over to the lath and even though it is hardened a carbide tool took enough off to let it work.
