As far as I can tell, the only thing changed is the seat/taillight/fender and bars. The custom seat would be the toughest part of the project.

Have to change the clocks for smaller also the head light....
What about the rear shock? Do you notice less clearence between the seat and rear tyre? I think they changed the position...

From the level of the axis vs. exhaust I'd say they did not change.

But I would not copy the oval rear wheel.

I wouldn't copy the front fender neither! It's to close to the tyre, they made a kind of photoshop with this picture, but I think is not too Difficult to modify it that way....

Not sure if that front fender is a photochop deal, or if it is simply mounted backwards, but it does look to be an '80 or similar style fender. The '81 fender has the smoother rounded look to it.

Overall the bike looks to be a cross between a cafe, and bobber build
The rear of the frame has been bobbed behind the shocks with the custom seat (looks similar to several cafe style seats that I have seen), and rear fender. I have to assume that the tail light is tucked under the fender (not a good idea).

The front end looks to be drag bars with a single speedo, and smaller headlight. The beer can rear bumper took a bit to figure out though!

Just a personal oppinion, but I would lower it a bit with shorter shocks, and fork tubes. And maybe use a shorter CB550 swing arm to pull the rear wheel it a little closer to the frame.

This one looks not like stock but also the stock front fender is very close to the tyre.
Already the play in the bolt holes may allow touching the tyre.

Found that out by a strange sound starting at 60mph after swapping the front wheel.

MiGhost: Speaking of 550 swing arm, are those direct bolt on and no fabrication needed? I wanted to shorten my wheelbase and looks like that's the best way to do it. Also I wanted to shorten my forks like that of a Standard or maybe shorter. What are my options? TIA.

A common mod for the 500/550 owners is to use the 650 swingarm to extend the wheelbase. From everthing that i have read. This is a bolt in swap on the 500/550's. There would be no reason to think that reversing the swap to use the 500/550 swingarn on a 650 wouldn't work.

There are several methods for lowering the front end.
From cheap to complicated
1. The forks could be move up in the triple tree. Note: On the 81 custom with the air assist forks this would be a limited amount due to the air assist in the fork caps. Handle bar risers could be used to help this.
2. Swap out to shorter forks from the standard model, Note: The standard model only used the single disc brake on the front. To retain the dual disc brake on the 81 custom you would need to use the original lower fork sliders with the standard upper fork tubes.
3. Use a shorter fork spring. This has the draw back of also reducing the overall fork travel, and may increase the possibility of bottoming out the forks on hard braking.
4. Use custom length replacement fork tubes. This will requre the use of shorter springs also.

When shortening the fronk forks to lower the front of the bike. You will need to make sure that the forks do not get into a coil bind situation with the springs.

Any tips on how they made the seat? :D I'm definatly not going without the fender. In utah they wont pass safety unless the fender covers atleast 50% of the bike.
