Alternator Charging rate

Postby jcasey007 » Fri Apr 18, 2014 3:31 pm

Hi All

the charge voltage of the CB650 is well documented on the forum but does anybody know what the maxium charging current is?

Haynes state that it is 260 watts @5000 RPM which at 12 Volts means a max charge current of 21 Amps ( I don't believe this to be true)

so before I start taking things apart has anybody measured the charge current?

I'm running a small Lithium battery which in hindsight I think is a bit small, fully charged (from my automatic battery charger) she cranks and starts second push from cold. After I have had it idling for 10 mins she struggles to crank but is being charged at 13.8 Volts and has a max of 14.4 Volts (both of which are as spec'd)

cheers

Jim
