1981 CB650C Part out
1981 CB650C Part out
I've got most of what is left of a 1981 CB650C up for sale. The bike has been sitting for about 8 years, but most of the chrome is in good to great shape. Plastics and rubbers is also in good shape. I'm not looking to get rich, so shoot me offers that are good for the both of us. I like to use paypal, but could manage another type should the need arise. Here is a list of what is left (there may be a few less obvious things I missed, so ask if it isn't, headers, headlight, etc...)
Plastic air box - good plastic
Rubber carb to air box elbows - no cracks
Choke cable
Speedo cable
Tach cable
Tach with chrome housing - good chrome
Seat - good frame, pad is probably usable, needs reupholstered
Kick stand
Center stand
Brake light switch
Tail light assembly, license plate holder, turn signal ears - good lens, good chrome
Chain guard - good chrome
Foot pegs (X4)
Engine - unknown status - if you need covers or parts, I will tear into it.
Turn signal/neutral/oil/high beam indicator
Rear fender - good chrome
Foot brake pedal - very good shape
Shifter - very good shape
4 turn signals - very good shape (9 out of 10)
Rear shocks - a little elbow grease and would be in good shape
Forks - very good shape, but need new seals
Front brake rotors - look decent (not sure of actual state)
Front “Comstar” wheel - good shape
Rear plastic inner fender - good plastic
Thanks for looking! -Tom

Hello Tom,
I am looking for the ignition pickup coils for a 1985 CB650. Do you still have those? And if so, do you know if they are the same from '81 to '85?
Thanks much,
Norman Smith

Re: 1981 CB650C Part out
Hey guys, my son just brought home a 1981 CB650C that has sat for the last 15 years. I'm looking for the following parts to make it safe and legal to ride:
Speedometer
Choke Cable
Clutch Cable
Luggage Rack with the higher sissy bar
Tail Pipe / Muffler for the four-in-one exhaust (would consider the whole exhaust system if in decent shape)
Brake master cylinder
If anybody still has any of these parts, let me know and maybe we can help each other out.
I may find out that I need some other items once I get more into it. This is my first time trying to restore an old bike, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and I hope to hear from someone soon.

I have a speedo. You should be able to find a aftermarket muff new.
Choke cables are hard to find used.
I should be able to dig up a clutch cable.

Re: 1981 CB650C Part out
Thanks for the reply CB650, I just a few minutes ago won a choke cable and gauge cluster from a guy who lives near here on fleabay. He also has all the other items I'm looking for except the exhaust, but those auctions are ending in the next couple of days. I'm getting some good prices, I hope the parts work out.
In looking at the exhaust pipes again I'm finding a few pinholes under the rust so it looks like I'm going to need the whole exhaust system. I've seen some after-market mufflers on JC Whitney that are pretty affordable, but the whole system appears to be both hard to find or pretty pricey.
Anybody out have a servicable exhaust system laying around that they will let go for a reasonable price? Please let me know.

Welcome here!
Many people before came here with questions about restoring a CB650 as their first bike, so you'll find a lot of hints if you like to read around a bit. Very helpful is the online manual at http://cosky0.tripod.com/. But this does not mean you should hesitate to ask questions here. We all started as beginners some time ago.
