Where in MD, and what year bike. I have an engine off of an '81 in the garage. I wasn't really planing to part with it, but we might be able to arrange something. It came off a parts bike, so I never saw it run, but when I pulled it about a year and a half ago, it turned by hand. There is also a guy in this area selling an '81 that runs, but he wants $800 with no title.

Year doesn't matter as long as it's pre 83'...I think that's when it changed over...having a brain fart. It's going into a cb500 frame anyway. I'm near bwi, if you know where that is

Thats when the engine changed to dual cam but there was a carb/head change mid production on the 650 sohc.

Yeah, they also changed the mounting and switched to shaft drive.

Yeah 800 with no title is a bit steep, I picked up the previous motor out of a 80 in rough shape with no title.

How much would you want for your motor?

Sounds like it could be reasonable. Whats that include? Condition? Pictures?

I'll have to see if I pulled the charging rotor from it or not. The rest of the engine is there, covers, etc. I do not have the carbs for it, but I may have a good head that will match up with PD carbs. I'll try to get out to the garage (I rent a garage across town) and get pictures and more specifics tomorrow.

The charging rotor is gone, as is the tach gear and housing.
Cell phone pictures, if you want or need better, I will try to find my wife's camera.

I do not know how many miles are on it, as the gauges were gone when I got the parts bike. I'll look for an '80 head when I get home from work in the morning.

hmm looks like its in decent shape. I think those parts will transfer over from the other motor. Im just nervous about buying another motor that doesnt run.

Is there a large difference between the 80 and 81 head? I know thats when they ditched the PD carbs

The spacing is different on the intake for the CV carbs than the PD, so you really cant use one type of carbs on the head designed for the other.
